Ruth Ann Edwards was born on April 23, 1954 to Betty Edwards in Portland, Oregon. She passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024, at her home in Toutle, Washington after a courageous battle with ALS. She was 70 years old. In 1957, Ruth Ann was adopted by Warren and Dolores Ashburn of Toutle, Washington. Ruth Ann attended Toutle Lake schools graduating in 1972. On December 15, 1972, she married Donald George Schaffran. They made their home in Toutle and welcomed three children; Janell, Andrew, and Wesley. After parting ways, she later had another son, James. She was proud of her children and grandchildren they were her greatest accomplishment in this life. Her faith was strong and unwavering in spite of the many hardships she experienced. Her family has no doubt that she is at home with her Savior Jesus Christ soaking up God's love and light free of her broken body and worshiping the Lord with her beautiful voice. Ruth Ann held many different jobs in her lifetime including cosmetology and retail. She concluded her working years by being a caregiver for Hospice providing in-home support to the elderly. Her heart for service and her dedication to others were evident in everything she did. Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents Warren and Dolores Ashburn. She is survived by her brother, Timothy Ashburn, her children Janell (Chris) Wheatley, Andrew (Tamara) Schaffran, Wesley Schaffran and James Ashburn; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother Betty Binion of Astoria, Oregon, sisters’ Terri Whittaker, Debra Whittaker, Lisa Trulock and brother Richard Flynn. A service for Ruth Ann will be held Sunday, December 1, 2024 at 1:30 in the afternoon at Toutle Christian Fellowship. The family invites you to attend the internment at the Silverlake Cemetery immediately following the service. You are also invited to remain at the church where the family will return for light refreshments.
